The 6th edition of Rotterdam Contemporary art fair will take place at the World Trade Center in Rotterdam. The fair will be held during the Rotterdam Art Week together with Art Rotterdam and other venues, creating the biggest art fair week in The Netherlands from Wednesday 8th till Sunday 12th of February 2017. Over the past years Rotterdam Contemporary Art Fair took place at the Cruise Terminal, located at Kop van Zuid. In 2017, the fair will move to the World Trade Center. The new location offers the fair a possibility to expand from 72 to over 90 stand presentations and to internationalize itself further on. The expansion of the fair enables a wider presentation of contemporary art scene and offers an international platform for galleries and other exhibition spaces. Link see more

the Kitchen God
It is believed that the Kitchen God has spend a year blessing our food and our cooking (which one must be thankful for!), apart from this he has been monitoring our virtue and evil deeds and will depart in the morning to report to the Jade Emperor. To thank him for his hard work and to avoid any slip up with his report, special food has to be offered for this occasion.
lunar 24th December, is the day for thanking the Kitchen God. On this day, the Kitchen God is about to depart to do his yearly report to the Jade Emperor; a summary of the good and bad deeds of the family his has been with. This is the day the family should thank him for his presence and to sweeten him up a bit so he will speak well of them. Previously we talked about preparing the Kitchen God for his report to the Jade Emperor, traditionally the (4th day of Chinese New Year) is the day to welcome him back to the household. The feast would be the same as that is served for welcoming a guest that has travelled from afar. Everyone in the household has to be present so he can keep his censors for the new year correctly.

Fra Bartolommeo
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen has the world’s largest collection of drawings by Fra Bartolommeo (1473-1517), comprising 500 sheets from two famous albums owned by Florentine collector Niccolò Gabburri (1729). A selection of 125 of these will be shown together with twenty drawings from museum collections abroad. They are studies for ten religious paintings that will be shown in the Netherlands for the first time, loaned by museums, cathedrals and private collections in Italy, France and the United States. The paintings range from a small diptych for private devotion from the Uffizi in Florence to a monumental 4-metre-high altarpiece from Lucca. Together the drawings and paintings give a unique insight into the creative process of one of the master painters of the Renaissance. Fra Bartolommeo (Brother Bartholomew, the religious name of Baccio della Porta) entered the Dominican brotherhood halfway through his career. Like Fra Angelico a century earlier, he worked in the famous convent of San Marco in Florence, where he painted exclusively religious subjects including large altarpieces. Fra Bartolommeo is relatively unknown in the Netherlands yet alongside Leonardo, Raphael and Michelangelo, he was one of the four most illustrious artists of the Italian High Renaissance. All four worked in Florence in the years 1500-1508. Fra Bartolommeo drew two portraits of Michelangelo and was a friend of the young Raphael. In his famous book ‘Lives of the Most Eminent Painters’ (1550), the great Florentine artist, collector and biographer Giorgio Vasari praised Fra Bartolommeo for the quality of his paintings and his manner of working: from drawing to painting. GREENPEACE
The Internet needs a lot of energy, and its footprint grows every day as we live more and more of our lives online. That’s why Greenpeace is calling on major Internet companies to lead the way in renewable power. Over the past few years, after hearing from Greenpeace supporters, both Apple and Facebook committed to 100 percent renewable energy, causing major investments in wind and solar energy.
score: AAAAB, Apple’s aggressive pursuit of its commitment to power the iCloud with 100% renewable energy has given the company the inside track among the IT sector’s leaders in building a green Internet. Apple has made good on its pledge by building the largest privately owned solar farms at its North Carolina data center, working with its utility in Nevada to power its upcoming data center there with solar and geothermal energy, and purchasing wind energy for its Oregon and California data centers. Apple’s commitment to renewable energy has helped set a new bar for the industry, illustrating in very concrete terms that a 100% renewable Internet is within its reach, and providing several models of intervention for other companies that want to build a sustainable Internet. Parsons & Charlesworth
Thanks to Jules van der Vuurst de Vries and Willy
Parsons & Charlesworth is an experimental and speculative design studio founded in 2014 by Tim Parsons and Jessica Charlesworth After running independent practices they joined forces to pursue projects that combine influences from fiction, science and the arts with disciplinary knowledge in craft and industrial design, to produce work that explores the rhetorical and narrative opportunities of designed objects. Their combined ways of working cohere and reveal a shared ideology that is variously open, explorative, playful, provocative, bittersweet and ironic. In broad terms their work conveys the possibilities for change that design embodies, whether this change concerns how everyday objects are perceived and used, or how wider subjects, such as death, climate change, or personal survival, are considered. The task of conveying alternative possibilities for design and future ways of living does not need to be restricted to a single medium or mode of production. The studio output includes writing, printed publications, mass-produced objects and one-offs or limited editions. By working in this way they hope to be able to provide material to a wide range of different audiences. LINK The Golden Section Finder

By emissions of carbon dioxide Fireworks contributes to the greenhouse effect. Fireworks also causes acid rain: is a matter of sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere. There are also heavy metals (lead and zinc) into surface water, soil and sewage sludge. Fireworks also caused a concentration of tiny particles in the air (smog): there is no point in the year when the air is so polluted as on January 1, between midnight and one o'clock. In people with a disease of the airways or with cardiovascular disease, this can lead to acute symptoms. Fireworks consists of 75% of potassium nitrate (KNO3), and for the rest carbon (15%) and sulfur (10%). iPhone
The history of the iPhone began with a request from inventor Steve Jobs to Apple Inc.'s engineers, asking them to investigate the use of touchscreen devices and a tablet computer, which later came to fruition with the iPad. Many have noted the device's similarities to Apple's previous touch-screen portable device, the Newton MessagePad. Like the Newton, the iPhone is nearly all screen. Its form factor is credited to Apple's Chief Design Officer, Jonathan Ive. On January 9, 2007, Steve Jobs announced the iPhone at the Macworld convention, receiving substantial media attention. Jobs announced that the first iPhone would be released later that year. On June 29, 2007, the first iPhone was released. On June 11, 2007, Apple announced at the Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference that the iPhone would support third-party applications using the Safari engine on the device. Third parties would create the Web 2.0 applications and users would access them via the internet. Such applications appeared even before the release of iPhone; the first being "OneTrip", a program meant to keep track of the user's shopping list. On June 29, 2007, Apple released version 7.3 of iTunes to coincide with the release of iPhone. This release contains support for iPhone service activation and syncing. In 2012 Dolf Pauw bought his first iPhone 4. Now he uses iPhone 5 and this is the result with the iPhone camera the last four weeks. LINK history iPhone

Card 2016
The first Christmas cards were commissioned by Sir Henry Cole and illustrated by John Callcott Horsley in London on 1 May 1843. The central picture showed three generations of a family raising a toast to the card's recipient: on either side were scenes of charity, with food and clothing being given to the poor. Allegedly the image of the family drinking wine together proved controversial, but the idea was shrewd: Cole had helped introduce the Penny Post three years earlier. Two batches totaling 2,050 cards were printed and sold that year for a shilling each.
Since the 19th century, many families and individuals have chosen to make their own Christmas cards, either in response to monetary necessity, as an artistic endeavour, or in order to avoid the commercialism associated with Christmas cards. With a higher preference of handmade gifts during the 19th century over purchased or commercial items, homemade cards carried high sentimental value as gifts alone. Many families make the creation of Christmas cards a family endeavour and part of the seasonal festivity, along with stirring the Christmas cake and decorating the tree. Over the years such cards have been produced in every type of paint and crayon, in collage and in simple printing techniques such as potato-cuts. A revival of interest in paper crafts, particularly scrapbooking, has raised the status of the homemade card and made available an array of tools for stamping, punching and cutting.
Advances in digital photography and printing have provided the technology for many people to design and print their own cards, using their original graphic designs or photos, or those available with many computer programs or online as clip art, as well as a great range of typefaces. Such homemade cards include personal touches such as family photos and holidays snapshots. Crowdsourcing, another trend enabled by the Internet, has allowed thousands of independent and hobbyist graphic designers to produce and distribute holiday cards around the world. LINK card 2005

Rescued Film Project
The Rescued Film Project is an online archive gallery of images that were captured on film between the 1930's and late 1990's. Each image in our archive was recovered from found film from locations all over the world, and came to us in the form of undeveloped rolls of film. We have the capability to process film from all era's. Even film that has been degraded by heat, moisture, and age. Or is no longer manufactured. Why do we rescue film? Every image in The Rescued Film Project at some point, was special for someone. Each frame captured, reflects a moment that was intended to be remembered. The picture was taken, the roll was finished, wound up, and for reasons we can only speculate, was never developed. These moments never made it into photo albums, or framed neatly on walls. We believe that these images deserve to be seen, so that the photographer's personal experiences can be shared. Forever marking their existence in history. Film is an organic material that degrades over time. We are committed to rescuing as many images as possible, before they're all gone. We Need Your Help. Found film? CONTRIBUTE it to The Rescued Film Project for free processing and archiving. Expired film developing or old film developing. Do you recognize someone in the project? Please let us know so we can reconnect them with their lost, but not forgotten images. via Kristin Stuestøl Norway LINK rescuedfilm

Maceo Parker
Special guest Candy Dulfer. Seen @ Theatre Rotterdam
Funk and soul icon Maceo Parker is still smartly dressed and brings his infectious music by wish live. The alto saxophonist played in the past with such luminaries as Prince, James Brown, Bootsy Collins and Ray Charles. On his own performances, he navigates between James Brown's' 60s soul and George Clinton's freaky funk and touches of jazz and hip hop. Maceo Parker (1943) is a living proof that funk keeps people young. He used to be an essential part of the engine that James Brown as swinging did bounce around the stage. The unmistakable sound of Maceo was played on big hits like Papa's got a brand new bag, and I feel good. He helped build the alternative funk empire of George Clinton and Bootsy Collins, and he played with artists such as Ray Charles, Prince and Red Hot Chili Peppers in recent decades.
