Banksy missing work in New York

The anonymous graffiti artist known as Banksy is perhaps the most controversial street artist of today. He is famous for his stenciled graffiti works, which appear in public spaces around the world. His use of stenciling developed from a need to complete a work quickly, namely to avoid being caught vandalizing by police. Banksy often uses multi-layered stencils to employ multiple colors, and he frequently incorporates permanent environmental fixtures, such as street signs and architectural elements, into his work. Marked by dark humor, satire, and political commentary, much of his street art has become viral on the Internet. His most notable early work was the result of a trip to Palestine and the West Bank, where he stenciled nine images on the Bethlehem Wall.

His recent work spotted in New York, March 2025 shows that there has been a shift in design. Yet this new work is reminiscent of Girl with Balloon from 2006. With its striking simplicity and raw immediacy, Girl with Balloon, 2006, is one of the most widely recognizable images by the anonymous and world-renowned artist Banksy. Banksy’s Girl with Balloon was voted the nation’s favorite artwork in a 2017 poll; a resounding affirmation of the broad and wide-reaching popularity of this undeniably iconic and culturally formidable image. Banksy's new work is likely to appear at auction soon, it has been removed by an unknown person.

Mosse-lezing by Lisa Weeda

Amsterdam OBA Theater (Oosterdokskade 143, 6e / 7e etage)

Add One day I sent a file to Lisa, about my father Jilles Pauw. I called it: family secret. I didn't know she was preparing for a lecture.
The twenty-first Mosse lecture will be given by Dutch-Ukrainian writer, literary programme maker, theatre maker and virtual reality director Lisa Weeda. In her lecture Lisa will focus on her grandfather Jilles. Jilles distinguished himself during the Second World War through his heroism: from a forced labourer he developed into an Englandvaarder and participant in D-day. But after the war he ended up, in the Indies, alias Indonesia, on the wrong side of history. And then there is a third, unorganised archive – about a love life that jeopardised his marriage and reputation. How do these three reconcile?
