Wood Circle by Richard Long
Richard Long went on trips through nature in various countries in the world. He left traces in the landscape, often in geometrical patterns which he then photographed. Since the late 1970s he has constructed geometric forms in the museum with materials taken from nature. Wood circle is one of the earliest and purest examples of these forms. All the other later works, including those in the Van Abbemuseum, were a result of these ideas. Together with other works, wood circle forms a sort of mirror of our (collective) past.
