MANGA or MAMA

The world of MANGA
The makers of Samurai now confront you with the terrifying guards of Buddhist philosophy, bonded with the fierce and powerful heroes of Street Fighter. Shinkichi Tajiri’s Machines lead you into the enchanting world of MANGA. The versatility of manga art has never been shown so clearly. The Japanese Buddhist guards introduce the philosophy of manga in comics, anime and games. When after the fascinating story of the fighting machines of Shinkichi Tajiri, the beauty of manga art unfolds, the mysticism of manga can be grasped. The innovative photo art by Anderson & Low raises the question: are these manga inspired dreams of people, or people inspired dreams of manga? Their project Manga Dreams constitutes a major part of the exhibition.

MAMA
Proudly presents its highly anticipated jubilee book: Sweet Sixteen.
15 years of Showroom MAMA, in which we celebrate fifteen (now almost sixteen) years of activity. Providing insight into the dynamics and approach of MAMA through the years, Sweet Sixteen. 15 Years of Showroom MAMA reflects on how a small corner of Rotterdam's Witte de Withstraat became a defining platform for contemporary visual culture. The book also provides insights into MAMA's controversial projects and people in the form of interviews, articles, and a wealth of images. The book underlines the importance of the organization, both for the arts and the public.
