Retrospective PER KIRKEBY
And the "Forbidden Paintings" of Kurt Schwitters
Friday 10.02 > Sunday 20.05.2012
It was in 1961 that Per Kirkeby, then a young artist, fell in love with the landscapes painted by the German artist Kurt Schwitters (1887-1948) when he was in exile in Norway in the 1930s. Schwitters is known for his Dadaist collages, but Kirkeby has drawn attention to another side of Schwitters, revealed in these works that that the Danish artist calls his "forbidden paintings", "works that do not fit in with 'history'". Kirkeby can identify with the crazy side of Schwitters – a craziness that liberates him from considerations of technique, style, or taste. (DPhoto)
